Radiotherapy requires competent professional staff to ensure safe and effective patient treatment and management. There is a need to provide guidelines that recommend appropriate staffing levels to support the initiation of new services as well as the expansion or upgrade of existing services as even simple upgrades or replacement of existing equipment may have a significant impact on staffing needs. Similarly, the introduction of education and training programmes will require staffing adjustments. A calculation algorithm was developed to predict staffing levels based on the inputs that are known or can be easily estimated. This publication complements other IAEA publications used to support the initiation of basic radiation medicine services including Setting up a Radiotherapy Programme: Clinical, Medical Physics, Radiation Protection and Safety Aspects, published in 2008.

Pages: 336

The role of religious self-understandings as resources for the normative foundations of democracy is much debated in social and political ethics, theology and law. The comparison of the positions of Rawls, Habermas and Ricoeur highlights alternative conceptions of the premises of “public reason” and of religion. Recent philosophical and theological receptions and critiques in English and German are brought into conversation.
Paul and the Vocation of Israel

Paul and the Vocation of Israel

Author: Lionel J. Windsor
Publisher: Walter de Gruyter
ISBN: 3110369834
Pages: 317
Year: 2014-04-01
The Apostle Paul was the greatest early missionary of the Christian gospel. He was also, by his own admission, an Israelite. How can both these realities coexist in one individual? This book argues that Paul viewed his mission to the Gentiles, in and of itself, as the primary expression of his Jewish identity. The concept of Israel’s divine vocation is used to shed fresh light on a number of much-debated passages in Paul’s letter to the Romans.

The Living God and the Fullness of Life

The Living God and the Fullness of Life

Author: Jürgen Moltmann
Publisher: Westminster John Knox Press
ISBN: 1611646634
Pages: 232
Year: 2015-11-13
Modern humanity has accepted a truncated, impoverished definition of life. Focusing solely on material realities, we have forgotten that joy, purpose, and meaning come from a life that is both immersed in the temporal and alive to the transcendent. We have, in other words, ceased to live in God. In this book, renowned theologian Jürgen Moltmann shows us what that life of joy and purpose looks like. Describing how we came to live in a world devoid of the ultimate, he charts a way back to an intimate connection with the biblical God. He counsels that we adopt a "theology of life," an orientation that sees God at work in both the mundane and the extraordinary and that pushes us to work for a world that fully reflects the life of its Creator. Moltmann offers a telling critique of the shallow values of consumerist society and provides a compelling rationale for why spiritual sensibilities and encounter with God must lie at the heart of any life that seeks to be authentically human.

Author: Allan J. Janssen, Leo Koffeman
Publisher: LIT Verlag Münster
ISBN: 3643903103
Pages: 206
Year: 2014
Church polity, as a theological discipline, has become increasingly aware of the challenge of contextuality, due to tendencies like secularization in the global North and a renewed awareness of inherited cultural and religious traditions in the global South. The ecumenical movement offers a particular framework for reflection on such developments. Contexts I and Contexts II of Protestant Church Polity in Changing Contexts contain proceedings from an international conference held in Utrecht in November 2011. Contexts I (ISBN 978 3 643 90310 5) includes essays in the fields of ecclesiology, church history, missiology, inter-cultural theology, and practical theology. The companion Contexts II (ISBN 978 3 643 90311 2) presents a number of case studies. (Series: Church Polity and Ecumenism. Global Perspectives - Vol. 2)
Scriptural Incipits on Amulets from Late Antique Egypt

Scriptural Incipits on Amulets from Late Antique Egypt

Author: Joseph E. Sanzo
Publisher: Mohr Siebeck
ISBN: 3161529650
Pages: 233
Year: 2014-02-24
The use of biblical and parabiblical texts on amulets and other apotropaic objects was ubiquitous in late antique Egypt. Among the passages most frequently cited were the opening lines (incipits) of the Gospels, the Psalms, and other scriptural texts. Scholars have repeatedly observed the apotropaic use of such incipits, but have yet to subject them to thorough and focused analysis. In the present volume, Joseph E. Sanzo addresses this scholarly need by offering the first sustained study of the scriptural incipits on Greek and Coptic amulets and other apotropaic objects from late antique Egypt. In addition to providing a catalog and edition of these texts, the author draws on insights from cognitive linguistics, ritual studies, and the history of the book to establish a typology of the incipits and to determine their ritual functions.
